Take in the Gorge in a way you might not have seen it before: On your bike! On June 18th, 2016 Friends of the Historic Columbia River Highway is hosting their 10th annual Gorge Ride fundraising event. Come pedal along the Historic Columbia River Highway state trail while stopping to enjoy spectacular views and tasty snacks at rest stops along the way. Whether youre a serious cyclists or a causal bike rider, this event is meant to be a day that is fun for all:

Bicyclists will again ride on the Historic Columbia River Highway from the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center in The Dalles to the Historic Columbia River Highway State Trail in Mosier, and will then continue on to the Senator Mark O. Hatfield West Trailhead east of Hood River above Rowena and return. This 38.5-mile trip includes the vista at Rowena Crest, travel through the Mosier Twin Tunnels and a rest stop (twice) at the historic Mayerdale Estate. Several hundred people typically participate in the ride, which is staffed with volunteers and offer well stocked rest stops. Registration is open online at www.gorgeride.eventbrite.com, for pricing information visit www.gorgeride.com/. The Friends of the Historic Columbia River Highway support the restoration and reconnection of the historic highway through the Columbia River Gorge. Their vision is to educate the public about the historic highway, advocate for the restoration and preservation of existing drivable portions of the highway to their 1920s appearance and link drivable portions with pedestrian and bicycle accessible connections, creating a continuous route through the Columbia River Gorge. Sponsors of the 2016 Gorge Ride include: Gorge Delights Just Fruit, Columbia Gorge Discovery Center and Museum, Cycle Oregon, Mayerdale Estate, Oregon Parks and Recreation Department, Daves Killer Bread, Dog River Coffee, Hood River Hotel, KoKi, Multnomah Falls Lodge, Organically Grown Company, Oregon Screen Impressions, Portland Wheelman Touring Club, Showers Pass, Subway, Burlingame Bikes, First City Cycles, and Sellwood Cycle Repair.
